10/6/10: I’ve been finding reasonable silver from the Bahamas on eBay. Lots of stuff around spot. Mostly fractional pieces, but there’s not a huge market for them and you can find some decent deals, especially on the half dollars and below. I recently got silver at around $19/oz, a nice discount to market.
05/15/10: There’s a seller on eBay looking to unload a large lot of silver war nickels ‘at melt value’. His price is higher than melt, but the auction suggests that a best offer could be submitted. At Friday’s close, a 40-coin roll should go for $42.80. Months ago, I was lucky enough to get one of these rolls for around $11. War Nickels, because they’re only 35% silver, can usually be had very close to spot (if not under!).
4/6/10: Silver Mexican Pesos can be a terrific pickup if you can catch an auction sleeping. A 100 (‘Cien’) Silver Peso has a face value of $8US which is the strongest dollar-support you can buy. Oh, and it’s got .6429/oz silver (worth $11.53 of this date). Pretty good for the the $9.99 I paid for it, with free shipping and an extra $.20 kicked in by the eBay bucks. That’s 15.4% below spot.
