I don't think he really has 'masters'. I do believe he's just a horrible, horrible evaluator of the metals market. The comments here alone, on this crummy blog, should convince Kitco that they're torpedoing their own business by parading this guy on the front page.

I wonder sometimes how Jon Nadler sleeps at night? Does he ever look himself in the mirror and see a con man? How can a man perpetuate a lie for so long and keep a straight face. Every single one of his predictions have been wrong. He has such a poor understanding of economics. Economics 101, when most Western economies print trillions out of thin air all currencies lose their value almost equally. Gold then does the inverse. So simple, and yet he tell us that gold bugs are wrong these past several years and then gold keeps going up and up.. I am so baffled. The only conclusion is that Nadler is a paid stooge courtesy of Bankers. He probably sleeps very well at night with money stuffed under his mattress from his masters.

Jon is the bear hitman of Kitco. He is paid (something) to present a hyper bearish opinion on gold. If he were canned (and he deserves to be fired) he would be replaced by another loudmouthed blowhard bear. Jon might even secretely not be such a bear on gold. How does this happen? Jon has nothing to lose and maybe loose scruples. He is semi-retired. He must be shameless to be such an ass. Some people love the perceived limelight so much that they will play the joker when most other people would not. Think of the jerk in the busy elevator that smile when they rip a smelly fart. Also, Kitco needs a bear analyst to counteract the bullishness of most other analysts on their site. I guess they want to be respected as impartial and not seen as a shill website. Go figure.

"Mr. Nadler is paid, for whatever motive, to poormouth gold and its price prospects"

I believe it's nowhere near as sinister as you suspect. In my opinion, Mr. Nadler's articles are there mostly to provide Kitco with [legal] proof that they aren't hyping the products they're selling. He's providing the "balance" to the rest of the pro-gold commentators they publish.

Only a guess, but if you see it in this light, it makes a lot more sense.

Mellow Yellow Nadler needs to branch off into sports predictions and other binary outcomes that can be bet against. I'd pay for his newsletter. Otherwise, it would be nice if he were abducted by aliens.

What bothers me most about Nadler isn't that he is wrong. After all, it seems that he is a semi-retired quack that writes a dismissive missive. I called him a "blurb artist" and "yellow color commentator" in an email to him that, of course, he never responded to. Many such hangers on are frequently quoted in media but rarely taken seriously (if Nadler was, after all, gold would be $600 and Beck wouldn't be doing Goldline ads). Besides, everyone is entitled to an opinion even if it is horribly wrong and different from mine.

What bothers me the most his cheesiness. He tries to be cute and ends up being condescending and corny.
He tries too hard and it is obvious. What's up with all of his (parenthesis) double entendre? His belittling of gold and silver buyers as hackneyed stereotypes?

I sent the following email after the recent silver meltdown:

"If only the unemployed, the incorrigible internet gamblers with acne and the illiterate (those that don't read your magnum opuses) had avoided silver they could have saved themselves. Fortunately, everyone with a large brokerage account (s), over 50 and professional advisers were unharmed, and now we can laugh at the suckers from afar (while doing a jig to voulez-vous coucher avec moi).

The wind is ablowin' from the north and it smells rotten (like bad eggs)."
